A Warm Afternoon

When I picked Madalyn up this afternoon, she seemed her normal self and it was just pretty weather we stayed outside for a little while.  We rode the golf cart and played out in the yard.  When I brought her inside, I thought she felt hot. I took her temp and it was 101. Oh me, I don't know what's going on with my baby girl and why she keeps getting sick.  She is growing into such a little person with her own ideas and personality. She is so sweet, she is always hugging and kissing you.  She is just fun and amazing to watch.

Memorial Weekend at the Lake

Kevin, Madalyn, and myself went to the lake this past weekend. We left on Friday and came home last night.  It was a cool weekend, more like early spring, vs. early summer, but it was nice weather.  My parents were there and we had family come down to; my aunt Susan, uncle Dan, my cousin Tim and his wife Amanda.  Kevin, however, got sick again with the stomach bug, he started Saturday night with it, he seems better today.  Sunday, we had septic tank problems, it was backed up.  Thankfully our neighbor that lives there all the time, knew someone to call and they came out and got it fixed. With it being a Sunday and a holiday weekend, we didn't know if we would be able to get it fix. Monday afternoon, Madalyn started running fever of 100 and threw up once. She made it home okay, but last night at 2:30, I got up to check on her and her fever was 103.7. I gave her some more medicine, some juice to drink, and started wiping her down with a cold wash cloth.  She went to the doctor today and they ran a UTI test on her, we are waiting on the results.  She couldn't go to the bathroom enough to get a good reading, so they are doing a culture test on her.  She has seemed like her regular happy self today, however this afternoon her fever went back up to 101. I just don't know, between her and Kevin, and myself we have been sick for the past two months off and on.  My parents had bought a new boat and this was the first weekend they had taken it out.  We liked it and we think it will be a nice change. He has always had a ski boat and bought a fun deck boat this time. It has more room to move around inside the boat, that's especially nice for Madalyn.

Madalyn fell asleep during the boat ride. I should have known then that she was getting sick.  She never just falls asleep like this.  She did think getting the trucks to blow their horns at the bridge was so much fun.

 

 

 

Strawberry Hill USA

Last weekend, I had a good friend from elementary school that was getting married, so Kevin, Madalyn, and I  went to Greer for the weekend. It rained all weekend, but it did stop for a few hours for the wedding.  It was inside, but you know no matter on your wedding day you want sunshine and clear skies.  On Saturday, we (my parents, papa, and us) rode up to Strawberry Hill USA to get some strawberries and eat lunch at their café.  The food was really good and they make homemade ice cream there which was so good and creamy.  I had chocolate, but Kevin and Madalyn had strawberry. She mainly liked it because it was "pink".  It was a fun outing even though it rained the whole time.  I would like to go back there when the peaches come in.  If you live in the upstate, you need to check it out.  It's worth the drive to visit.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

One Month from Today

My view this morning is an empty classroom that will in the next fifteen minutes be filled with 21 students who are ready for summer vacation (along with their teacher :0).  My view exactly a month from today will be a Florida beach and the only sound I will hear will be the waves lapping on the shore.  One month from today it will be Kevin and my 5 year wedding anniversary and we are going on a little vacation, just the two of us to Florida for a few days. My parents are going to come down and stay at our house and keep Madalyn.  I can't wait to just sit on the beach and relax.  Ok, the peaceful moment is gone, back to reality for 10 more days of school with students and for 17 more days total before I get my summer break.

Update on Us

I know it's been awhile since I have last blogged, but the past three weeks have been full of sickness and oh so busy!  Here's what's been going on these past few weeks.

Madalyn
The last time I blogged she was sick with a stomach virus and it started over the weekend. She continued that next week with constant diarrhea and I called the doctor's office and they said that as long as she wasn't running fever and there wasn't any blood, not to bring her in until after the 7 day mark or if things got worse. So that brought us to the next weekend. Saturday and Sunday morning I woke up with her waking up and a mess in her bed, which lead to like the 20th change in sheets and clothes and straight to the tub she went.  She continued into the week, which was last week, so by day 12 I decided it was time to take her to the doctor.  Her doctor said that she really thought this was still the virus and gave her some probiotics to take for a few days.  She said if by day 14 she hasn't stopped to take a diaper sample to the hospital for them to run tests on it.  Thankfully, she stopped on day 12 and has been fine since then.  I have washed and changed so many sheets and clothes in the last three weeks it's crazy.  I'm just glad she is back to normal now.  So, hopefully she will stay well for awhile, a long while.

That weekend that Madalyn began with her stomach virus, I woke up with pink eye on Saturday. Late Sunday afternoon, I started with the stomach virus, throwing up, etc. So I called in sick for Monday and took the day to rest.  Over the past few weeks, I have had continuous trouble myself off and on with this whole stomach thing. Then the weekend that Madalyn had her big messes in her bed, I ended up with a sinus infection. Thankfully I didn't have to go to the doctor to get some medicine, I had some on hand.

On top of the sickness, there are 13 days, with students, left of this school year, so in a way things have been slowing down at school, but on the other hand it's been really busy since the end is coming. Plus the fact of me and Madalyn being sick, I've been playing catch up with my school work.

That weekend that Madalyn and I got sick with the stomach virus, it was Kevin's turn on Monday.  He has also had continuous problems off and on throughout the past few weeks.  He has been very busy with the farm-the trucking company has really taken off and that's very exciting.  However, he has put in a lot of long hours lately and next month will be just as busy because he will be losing the chickens and will be cleaning out chicken houses.

Kevin and my family have been going through a lot of things lately, on top of all of the sickness.  If you think about us, please keep us and our families in your prayers.  God is good and He has been at work and really showing us and our families the ultimate Healer that He is. 

Stomach Virus and Pink Eye Returns

Well...everything was good until Friday night, Madalyn threw up right at my feet in the den, then she walked over to the couch and threw up, as Kevin rushed her to the bathroom, she threw up and it went everywhere; the door, rugs, all the way to the bathtub, the cabinet, wall, toilet, etc. This started around 8:30 and continued until 10:00. By 10:00, poor thing, she didn't have anything left, she was just dry heaving.  Once during one of the times she was throwing up, she was saying "I'm sorry, sorry, sorry". We were like it's ok, poor baby. She woke up about every hour to ever two hours during the night, but didn't throw up any more. Saturday we had about 7 to 8 bad, bad diapers during the day. She threw up at lunch, but I really think it was because she drank her tea why too fast and too much at once. She only had two small handfuls of goldfish and pedialyte to eat and drink all day.  Then she took a 3 1/2 hour nap, which I slept for about 2 1/2 hours myself.  She slept good last night and seems to be her regular self this morning. She never really ran a fever, even though she felt hot a good bit of the time.  Just so glad she's better.  It's a helpless feeling knowing you can't do a whole lot to help them when they are sick like this.

On Monday, Mrs. Katie kept our youth minister's little girl, and when she got ready to leave, the baby started throwing up and throwing up. The poor baby ended up being in the hospital Wednesday and Thursday due to her throwing up and running a high fever of 105.  They finally said she had a virus and a UTI infection.  She's home now and doing better, thankfully.  So, I would guess she shared part of what she had with Madalyn.  But hey, no blame here, kids share things back and forth all the time.  I'm so thankful Madalyn is feeling better and this little baby is doing better too.

Well, last night I noticed that my right eye was red, and this morning both of my eyes, once again, were matted shut and red/pink, once I got them unstuck.  I can't believe I have pink eye again.  But one of my students was out last Monday and she said that she had pink eye, so I guess that's where I got it from.  I have taught for 8 years and have never gotten pink eye before and within a month I've had it twice.  Thankfully, the last time I had it, I had my doctor that I see in Barnwell call in something and I got my doctor from Greenville (that my mom works for) called in something, so I did have a new set of drops already, so I can start on them today.  And hopefully, I can keep Madalyn from getting it and Kevin from getting it as well. I just have to wear my glasses all week, which can get old instead of my contacts, but oh well, you do what you have to do to get better.

"I'm Stuck!"

Last weekend, Madalyn went into my bedroom. I didn't follow her right away, when I did, I had to laugh and grab the camera, because she informed me that she was "stuck". She had climbed to the end of the bed and was stuck in between the mattress and the end board.  It was pretty funny, she was just hanging out. And it took some pulling to get her out too. You would think she would have learned her lesson, but nope, as soon as I got her out, she went right back to sliding in there again.
