Apple Picking

This weekend we went to Greer to see my parents.  Since Madalyn has been born we have gone every fall to pick apples and pumpkins. We had planned on going last weekend, but we were all getting over the stomach virus so postponed til this past weekend. We knew it was going to be chilly Saturday but had no idea we would need our snow clothes to apple pick! It was so COLD, the wind was blowing like crazy. Madalyn was freezing. We let her pick a few apples and then we bought the rest. She was content with that too. Even though it was cold we enjoyed our ride through the mountains.

We were later apple picking, so most of the apples were high up.

This was the coldest we have been yet to apple pick!

Madalyn and Nana made a pumpkin cake.

A Day at the Zoo

Last weekend, we had yucky weather due to Hurricane Matthew and during the mist of that storm, I came down with a stomach virus and then I have shared my virus with everyone in my family, it's been a rough week. We have had a nice weekend and today the weather was beautiful, so we took a family trip to the Riverbanks Zoo.  We had not seen the Sea Lion exhibit and now that Alexis is almost 2, she really enjoys seeing animals now.  We had a very nice morning and a great trip to the zoo.

Alexis spotted the tiger first and got very excited.

Grizzly Bears, the last time we saw them back in April for Madalyn's school field trip, they were both sleeping.

The zoo was decorated for Halloween and for "Boo in the Zoo"

Alexis liked the penguins.

She also liked the fish. I think it was because she get close to them more than the other animals.

We fed the giraffes.

Madalyn's two favorites: the giraffe and the zebra

Sea Lions

We couldn't leave the zoo with a ride on the merry-go-round

Alexis first merry-go-round ride

 She liked it! :0)

Hurricane Matthew-No School

So, we found out yesterday afternoon that school would be closed for the next three days due to the amount of traffic that would be coming through our area with the evacuation routes. So, today, Madalyn and I had school at home. I had her weekly newsletter with her skills she was learning this week in school, and we started from there. I have lessons planned for tomorrow and Friday as well. I didn't want her to get too off track with being out for this long. Plus, it also gives Madalyn something to do during the day and helps keep her busy.

Our school day began at 9 am instead of the usual 6 am today and that was really nice. We started with Math, learning about AB patterns.

Reviewed shapes

Used Play Doh to make shapes. Then Madalyn had some free play with Play Doh while I cleaned the kitchen.

We had morning recess...it was a little windy and a bit chilly this morning. We went on a fall nature hunt.

Alexis joined us for our morning recess time. :0)

It's fun to be outside!

Practicing the letter Y

Sight Word for this week "the"

We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar book and sequenced the food the caterpillar ate.

Madalyn had some time on the computer with ABCmouse.com and we had a field trip this afternoon....a trip to the dentist for a check up.

Madalyn got these bracelets and ring for being good at the dentist. She experienced her first time having X-rays done. Everything was good, however, the tooth fairy is going to be very busy at our house over the next year or so. All these permanent that are lined up to be coming in. :0)

When we got back from the dentist, we had our afternoon recess. It was a good day and we will repeat tomorrow, without the dentist of course!

LIFE

Just a random post here....

Madalyn is my special helper at school. Every morning she helps me turn the computers on in the lab before going to her class.

Today we ran some errands and Madalyn wanted to go to McDonald's (of course :0). She really LOVES superheros and the special toy for this month is the DC Comic SuperGirl heroes....It's funny how superheroes were popular when I was her age and Wonder Women was one of my favorite. Somethings never go out of style or change.
