First Day of Kindergarten

Today was Madalyn's first day of kindergarten. She was so EXCITED!!! She was dressed and ready to go at 6:00 am this morning. I had to be at school early, so we had to start our day early. This was the first time that I got to take Madalyn to school. The last three years in preschool, either my mother-in-law took her or my sister-in-law because I had to be at school before she went. It was a morning of many firsts. I was different having Madalyn ride with me to school and home from school. It's different being a teacher and a parent, having your child at school with you. Madalyn had a great first day. She got her year off to a great start. We pray it will continue.

Last week I was unsure if Madalyn would get to go to school on the first day or at all this week. Last Sunday, Madalyn woke up at 3 am with a fever of 104. She continued that day having high fever which is unusual for her. Her pediatrician's office is open for sick visits only on the weekends, so I took her Sunday afternoon to the doctor. They tested her throat for strep and tested her for a UTI, but everything was negative. Once we got home, the tummy troubles started and Madalyn couldn't stay out of the bathroom. She was laying around on the couch and was pitiful. This was the sickest I had ever seen her. Madalyn hasn't been a sickly child and it's rare something keeps her down. Monday night she ended up with blood in her stool. So I called the doctor that was on call and they said to bring her back in Tuesday morning for a stool sample testing. So we did that and found out Friday that she tested positive for salmonella poisoning. By Wednesday she had stopped running fever and was starting to act more like herself. She has continued to improve each day and was well enough to go to school today. We are unsure as to how she got this and the doctors say there's no way to know for sure. I'm just glad she is feeling better.
