International

I have two really different things to blog about today; but both are international related.

Number One: COW Community Service Project
Each year every grade level has to do a community service project. This year 4th grade is looking a little outside of their community.......they are going international! Our school goal is to raise $500 to buy a cow. Did I say cow? Yes, I said cow.

Here is what their project is about:

When a family has a cow, every morning there's a glass of rich milk for the children to drink before heading off to school. Classes are paid with the income from the sale of milk, and there's even enough to share with the neighbors. A good dairy cow can produce four gallons of milk a day - enough for a family to drink and share with neighbors. Milk protein transforms sick, malnourished children into healthy boys and girls. The sale of surplus milk earns money for school fees, medicine, clothing and home improvements. Better still, every gift multiplies, as the animal's first offspring is passed on to another family-then they also agree to pass on an animal, and so on.And because a healthy cow can produce a calf every year, every gift will be passed on and eventually help an entire community move from poverty to self-reliance. Now that's a gift worth giving!

Each class has been given the goal of raising $20. Today my class met our goal! I was very proud of them for bringing in their change (meaning I ended up counting $11 in pennies today!)

Number Two: Congratulations to Erin and Andy!

Erin is one of my childhood friends. We use to live on the same street until she was about two years old, then she moved to Shallotte, NC. We would get together with Erin and her parents when we would go to the beach. (Holden Beach and Ocean Isle; both in North Carolina) We have stayed in contact through the years. Back in October-November, Erin got engaged. Andy is from Italy and they have been over there several times since being together. They are getting married May 21, 2011 in Italy. I received their Save-the-Date today in the mail and it has a website all about them and the wedding. http://www.weddingwire.com/wedding/UserViewWebsitePage?themeCode=81&wid=26b6bc8097e5d3c1&pid=401ae276f24caf0e
It's a really cool website, I think anyway to create for an international wedding. The pictures are beautiful. They are going to be getting married in a castle. When I found out about her wedding, I told Kevin that if Madalyn wasn't going to just be 6 weeks old at the time, we would do our best to go. You will just have the cost of your flight and pay $300 to stay all week long at a villa they are renting for the wedding party and guests. It would be a trip of a life time. But, Madalyn is going to be our big adventure this year.
